Re: Cops Help Woman Suicide
Procedure for shooting a perpetrator is to shoot your gun to kill, head or center mass, you just DON’T use a gun as a non-lethal choice. I’m not entirely sure why he didn’t grab his taser instead of his gun, regardless, the actions taken were textbook and very appropriate, given the situation. |

Re: Cops Help Woman Suicide
No, you shoot to STOP. (You aim at the main body mass, which is what you are most likely to hit. Anyone who says "aim for the legs" is an uninformed idiot. You shouldn't aim for the head because you are less likely to hit it.) Your objective in shooting is to STOP THE THREAT, not to kill. Of course you may end up killing the person, and if the shoot was a "good" one that' unfortunate, just justified. Non-lethal doesn't always work. If you're the cop and you have one option and you choose non-lethal, you can end up stabbed. With two cops there should be one on non-lethal and one on lethal. Time permitting (which it did in this case) the non-lethal fires first and if that stops the threat then that's a good outcome. If non-lethal doesn't stop the threat then you have no option but to use lethal. |

Re: Cops Help Woman Suicide
Exactly. There was nothing at all wrong with the male cop's actions. The female cop missed an opportunity to (possibly) resolve the situation with non-lethal, and she needs "retraining". |

Re: Cops Help Woman Suicide
And you know that how exactly? They knew. Anyway, why didn’t the cops try to run away? Too much ego, I’m sure, but there have been many videos of cops running down suspects. There was just a video here from Peru(?) where the cops ran away and approached a suspect armed with a knife many times before ultimately shooting him. At least, they tried whereas that likely doesn’t happen in ultra-violent America. |

Re: Cops Help Woman Suicide
I agree, I mean as soon as the one officer drew his pistol that other officer should have immediately grabbed their tazer. The suspect was already covered lethality, don't need two guns on a knife. Then as soon as he gave the command to taze it would have just been a little finger squeeze rather than " oh, you want me to grab my taz"...BANG BANG BANG... "Nope, don't need the tazer anymore...." |

Re: Cops Help Woman Suicide
De-escalation is so important, but mental illness is NOT a free pass to be an asshole or come at anyone with a knife. This lady wasn't just shouting at the sky and the cops dropped her, she was armed and sadly a danger to everyone. Tasing isn't always effective and no you can't shoot people in the leg, this isn't Robocop you twat. |
