A pastor, Marlon Y.L.; his wife, Yorley R., and their 21-year-old daughter, Angela L.R., were murdered by a motorcycle-riding hitman whilst they were having a meal in a restaurant in Aguachica, shortly after concluding a religious service.

Marlon and Yorley's 18-year-old son, Santiago, was also shot, and was taken to hospital. A relative told "El Tiempo" newspaper that Santiago was brain dead and was on an artificial respirator.

Relatives also told media that they weren't aware of Marlon or his family being threatened by armed groups in the past. Religious reasons have been brought up as one possible motive. Another is that the actual target was another customer at the restaurant.
