Ecuador. The victim was identified as Charles J.C.C, a 25-year-old man who had been working at the local coconut business for 3 years.

According to police reports and witnesses, the shooter was a teenager who arrived at the shop on a bicycle. The minor acted completely casual at first, even ordering items and drinking some juice while talking to the victim.

Moments later, when he was outside on his bicycle, he pulled out a firearm and shot Charles at point-blank range, killing him. In his rush to escape, the attacker abandoned both his bicycle and the firearm outside the shop.

Criminalistics have seized these items to extract fingerprints and DNA evidence and looking at security footage to identify him. While a robbery attempt hasn't been completely ruled out, investigators are heavily looking into an extortion motive as that's more common than rare in that area.

Charles's mother told investigators that three years ago she asked her son-in-law to give her son a job to help him get ahead. Since then, the young man had been working in the coconut business. He would leave his house around 7:00 a.m. and return around 11:00 p.m.
