Re: Chinese Weightlifter Suffocates After Barbell Drops on His Neck
You're right this is proper technigue for a max single rep lift. This kid looked a bit light in the ass to be pushing 275. I assume those were 45s and 25s.

This is 100% incorrect. That text has absolutely nothing to do with this video.

If he would've been listening to "Eye of the Tiger" he probably would've gotten the inspiration to lift it. But that was unfortunately not on his Playlist today. |

Re: Chinese Weightlifter Suffocates After Barbell Drops on His Neck
You don't bend your back like that! You need the mid upper and lower chest pumping that weight when you're benching flat! He could have easily grabbed the Olympic bar on one side and tipped the weight. This exact thing has happened to me multiple times (when you do not have an available spotter) but I rolled it off my chest and to my stomach and stood up to hang the weight in around 3-5 seconds. |

Re: Chinese Weightlifter Suffocates After Barbell Drops on His Neck
Everybody should use at least a little bit of arch when benching. That allows you to use your chest more effectively in the movement. It has to do with the angle the pectoral muscles attach to the humerus. You want to arch your back so that the pecs are directly under the bar and have a better leverage at pulling the humerus. This applies even if you're never going to try to lift maxes. For maxes some people use an extreme arch in order to shorten the distance they have to lift, and at some point it just becomes ridiculous. But even if that's the technique you're going to use for maxes, most of your training should be done with a longer range of motion. And always use safety bars.

Re: Chinese Weightlifter Suffocates After Barbell Drops on His Neck
Using barbell clips when benching heavy without a spotter You could facepalm at the “benching heavy without a spotter” but then to block your best avenue of escape by throwing clips on so you can’t dump the weight? Double facepalm is actually better |
