Re: Car Literally Wrapped Around A Tree

Seems correct. Not sure if the impact itself can alter the final needle positions. I have a Seat Ibiza with 130 hp and at 180 km/h the RPMs are around 2800 in 6th gear. I don´t think this tree-car could do that.

It's Brazil, not Puerto Rico. The speedometer is showing 180 Kilometres per hour = approx. 112 Mph
And the fact that the speedometers indicates 180 does NOT mean that the car was travelling at that speed: if he was pushing the throttle while the car was in flight then the wheels kept accelerating, and that's the speed that was recorded, not the actual speed of the car before/during the flight.

It's my opinion... But I think the tree should be punished. 1st Degree Murder.

Re: Car Literally Wrapped Around A Tree

I am suprised his body was that intact. Thats why you buy your kid a car with a full frame not a unibody.
I was gonna mention that. Unibody is a great concept until you get those speeds and a side impact. Thankfully he was wearing a seat belt. It could of been real bad.

Re: Car Literally Wrapped Around A Tree

1)"unit body", not "unibody", and 2)a car with a frame would not help you when you broadside a tree at 50 mph, i guarantee you. might even make things worse, because less of the energy would be absorbed by the car
Both terms are correct. When I worked in car sales I was taught to call it a unibody. That's here in USA.
modern cars use unitary construction which is also known as unit body, unibody, or Body Frame Integral construction.[3] This uses a system of box sections, bulkheads and tubes to provide most of the strength of the vehicle, to which the stressed skin adds relatively little strength or stiffness. The shell of a bird's egg is a perfect monocoque
