Re: Car Explodes at Gas Pump Killing a Woman Inside

Some cars in Brazil are fueled with natural gas (real gas, not gas as short for gasoline).
That makes sense. I did not know that natural gas is comonly used there. True gas fuels are rarely used for vehicles in my neck of the woods, so when I see explosion at gas pump I automatically assume liquid petrol. Thanks for the information.

It's a sudden release of highly pressurized gas(es) one way or the other, though I guess. Bomb vs rupturing high pressure gas cylinder can be quite similar and equally destructive.

Some cars in Brazil are fueled with natural gas (real gas, not gas as short for gasoline).

CNG cylinders work at 200 bar and can cause nasty explosions, like this.
My first thoughts were LPG gas cylinders when I saw it go off. Also after the explosion there is what appears to be pressurized gas jetting out of the rear of the car where most of these have the gas cylinders stored.

Re: Car Explodes at Gas Pump Killing a Woman Inside

Wow. No way that was a gasoline combustion accident. That definitely looked like an explosive detonation. A good half of the van just goes away - shredded like a cat toy.
They don't use gas, they use alcohol or a combination thereof in South America, especially Brazil I believe they use alcohol specifically. My teacher said it smelled like a bunch of winos constantly there lol...

That's what I was thinking too, but it's an actual explosion, which make's me also think it would be the rupture or detonation of the tank. I say it's an actual explosion because gas, alcohol, and everything else has a different sort of look as to when and how it combusts and I don't think that was gas, I'd really like to know WHAT started it, but sadly that might never be known.

Reminds me of the IRA days when people would be checking under their cars for something exciting. Boom motherfuckers!
