Back in the old days we use to make sure that the fuse isnt overdone with too much gunpowder. The initiator delays perfectly well. And we make sure we hold on to the hard bottom (which is usually made out of pounded clay or cement) in case this happens - the blood drains out of the hand with a few bruises or loose a few of the tip of the finger, this is how i lost my pinky nail.

Basing on the video, it seems that the kid either made his own explosives or manages to find one, calls out his friends with their camera and BOOM!
