They didn't even give the guy a chance to drop the knife and they began shooting. At the end when they handcuff the poor bastard |

Re: Body Camera Footage Released After LMPD Officers Shot and Killed Armed Suspect
no need to handcuff the dude when he's dying/dead. also, this isn't some shootem up style video game. dumbass cops should be equipped with tasers or something else besides their trusty gun. i'm sure a taser would have been sufficient to stop the guy from advancing. jeez.

why take the risk? once they are cuffed there is no question as to whether they are neutralized or not.

Re: Body Camera Footage Released After LMPD Officers Shot and Killed Armed Suspect
this isn't the movies....there's no bad guys dying that have a secret weapon and they are secretly waiting to fire it. the dude is dying/dead. the actual normal thing to do would be to comfort him, or position him so that he is comfortable...apply pressure on the wound and call for an ambulance. where is the humanity? wait until the tables are turned and how your ass feels when you apply your dumbass logic. |

Re: Body Camera Footage Released After LMPD Officers Shot and Killed Armed Suspect
I don't see a guy "charging" at anyone. I see a guy who took two slow steps towards the cops after being given half a second to comply, and then being pumped full of lead. And why approach so close to someone with a knife in the first place? Issue the command from far enough away so that you've got time to judge if compliance is met or not. What the cops have done here is intentionally put themselves in the attack zone, and then claimed their lives were at risk, so they shot. Disingenuous at best. Still... guy had a knife. Walk around in public with a weapon in your hand, you're bound to run into trouble, some worse than others... |

Re: Body Camera Footage Released After LMPD Officers Shot and Killed Armed Suspect
Here's the problem. When an officer responds to a call like that, they have no idea what's waiting for them on the other side of the door. Could be a guy on meth with a twelve gauge shotgun, or it could be a senile grandmother throwing marshmallows. They have no idea, so when given the choice of going in armed with a less-than-lethal weapon such as a Taser, or going in armed with a leathal weapon like a pistol, they generally go for the gun. Who can blame them? Sometimes they have the opportunity to switch to their tazers, but as this video shows, sometimes they don't. What surprise's me is that they haven't developed and implemented a single, non-bulky sidearm that can be both leathal or not. It would eliviate the need for the officer to take his weapon off his target, while allowing him both options depending on how the situation plays out. Hey, I'm no engineer but I bet some of you could come up with something. |
