Unfortunately you're right. My family all live there, I used to go there at least once a year and spent summers there. I used to walk everywhere, even late at night. I haven't been there since the early 1990s. It's too Damm dangerous, even in the all inclusive Resort Hotels.

It really depends on the location and the company you keep. I was there visiting and walked around at all times of the night alone and nothing happened at all.
