An estimated 600,000 to 650,000 people suffer a full cardiac arrest each year in the States. Over 350,000 cases occur outside of a hospital setting annually. 70% of these events take place directly in private homes or residences. 90% are fatal.
The other cases happen inside a Hospital and have a survival rate of 20-25%.

Biological males account for approximately 63% to 64% of out-of-hospital cardiac arrests. The majority of cardiac arrest events happen to older populations; adults aged 65 and older have the highest overall crude mortality rate. (Under 18 years around 4,000 cases)

The Southern United States consistently reports higher cardiac arrest mortality burdens compared to other regions. People living in lower socioeconomic census tracts suffer a higher incidence of cardiac arrests.

Blocked arteries are the leading cause. High blood pressure, diabetes, and obesity in lower-income communities directly damage heart tissue over time. Limited access to primary care means underlying structural heart diseases, high cholesterol, and arrhythmias go undiagnosed and untreated. Chronic socioeconomic stress increases systemic inflammation and cortisol levels, which raises long-term cardiovascular risk.

Only half of men suffering a cardiac arrest felt symptoms, hours or days earlier and that's the scariest part. The precise percentage of adults who are classified as overweight (BMI 25 to <30) in Tennessee is 33.3%, which climbs to a combined total of 71.8% when factoring in the state's clinical obesity rate.
