Re: 3 Teenagers on a Bicycle End Up on Highway and Runover by a Truck
truck driver version is pure shit. He obviously didn't even try to slow down or turn left/right and he had plenty of time to do it. |

Re: 3 Teenagers on a Bicycle End Up on Highway and Runover by a Truck
Im inclined to blame the truck more than the bikers. He was in the opposite lane actually. That road is one lane per direction. He knows theres a merging / intersection area and he should not have overtaken in that specific area. The bike is in the right lane, of course they were also wrong in observing correct lane merging procedure by going along the extension shoulder before going to the main lane. I can guess they were going too fast and loaded too heavy to make accurate banking turns. Driver was probably looking behind too see if other vehicles are going their way. But they are still on the right lane and the truck is not.

Plus it was a blind curve for the truck and you dont overtake if you cant clearly see the side youre going. although he can see very well where the bikers are coming from. He should not have overtaken.

To add to XybertroniX's post, attempting to overtake another vehicle/truck in the opposite lane while going uphill on a blind curve is a big no-no. He should have known better. It is mostly his fault though the kids were going too fast down the exit ramp due to the weight of three.

Re: 3 Teenagers on a Bicycle End Up on Highway and Runover by a Truck
XybertroniX & AceGoober. I am a Transportation Safety Director, accident investigator, take a closer look at the videos. The bicyclist is going the wrong way. The roadway is both lanes going the same direction with a left side exit. That is why in the 2nd video, a truck is stopped in the left lane and traffic is slowly passing in the right lane. Also take notice of the road signs on the left side exit ramp-[yellow signs with black arrows]-the directions of the arrows are pointing around the left exit curve. At most the truck driver could have possible braked hard. His escape route to the right was blocked by the truck that he was overtaking. Had he attempted to swerve to the left, who is to say the bicyclist might have made the turn back tto the bycyclist's right-[truck driver's left]. Large trucks can't be maneuvered like a sports car. Sorry, just a trained keen eye and not being arguementive. |
