Your "favourite" Type of Deformity/Oddity?
Hi guys, newbie here so apologies if I'm in the wrong forum. I'm not sure favourite is the right word, since most deformities aren't very nice things, but I'm sure we all have a type of medical deformity or oddity of nature that fascinates us the most. My favourites are: Anencephaly (very, very sad condition. The first time I saw a baby like this I was utterly shocked, since then I have been very fascinated by it). My other favourite is the Teratoma (a type of tumour). And this is why they're fascinating: "teratomas have been reported to contain hair, teeth, bone and, very rarely, more complex organs such as eyes,[1][2] torso,[3][4] and hands, feet, or other limbs.[5]" (taken from wikipedia). I haven't done too much research into teratomas and so am not sure whether all of the ones containing body parts are in fact Fetus in fetu, or just randomly like to grow parts. Any info about this would be appreciated. I am always on the lookout for new fascinating things nature throws at us. What's a deformity or oddity that fascinates you? Please post pictures if possible. |

I find the teratoma tumors really interesting too. I have red somewhere that they usually don't even show the patients the tumors they removed from them, because of how disturbing it can be. If I had that, I would sure as hell want to see it. |

Re: Your "favourite" Type of Deformity/Oddity?
My favorite category is the Human Deformities because those affected do the best with what they do or don't have. I find it amazing that they overcome such obstacles! I hate seeing sick, wounded, or murdered babies, but, even at a young age, some of the living babies are absolutely amazing! They bring tears to my eyes, but, in a good way! They make me happy for what I have and to appreicate all the happy and healthy babies I know :) I admire the adults as well, but, babies really tear at my heart. If you've never seen it, check out a very old movie called, "Freaks", and see who the real freaks are! It is on this site. |
