The Worst Bed Sore This Nurse Has Ever Seen.
From a nurse: It actually doesn’t take long. It takes just about two weeks without proper treatment from a bedsore with just a surface necrosis to get like this. The problem is that units that care for so called long term diseased patients are chronically understaffed and underfunded..so the nurses don’t have time to position the patient every two hours and care for the wounds accordingly. So this kind of bedsore is not that unusual…  · |

I don't know what to say  Only two weeks? Geez, hanging around this site is The Way to get rid of the last sheds of naivety I might've been carrying.Chronically understaffed, underfunded and generally toxic long term/elderly care units seem to be a universal problem  |

A bedsore typically starts out as a little red area, usually on the buttocks, but can occur anywhere a body part is applying pressure against a mattress, for example. In a matter of a day or two, that red mark can turn into a septic wound. I work in a group home and am always on the lookout for this. Staff can be lazy, unfortunately, and do not change their briefs at night, or reposition them. It's a problem. |

This is probably the general standard of care most people receive in nursing homes. The young and the aged are the two groups of people we should spent the most of our time on. The young as they are learning the tools they need to navigate through life, and the aged because they have already made that navigation and are entitled to some rest and some peace. And to see them treated this way, as if their dignity doesn't matter anymore, is truly distressing.  |

Assisted suicide should be legal. What's.the point of rotting away in a care facility. You put dogs down when their quality of life is diminished and shouldn't be different for people.
