It's a tonsil crypt! I have big ones and they fill with gunk, which I have to pop out. I recently had a bad dose of tonsillitis and took a series of pics that are pretty gross! Your tonsil looks good and I'd say the pain is unrelated to the actual tonsil :-)

tonsil stones are white/yellowish. That looks like a small hole in the throat.  Prolly an infection of some sort.
