A guy I know injected a syringe full of methadone straight out the bottle, he was a bad whizz head (amphetamine) and had a hole the size of a finger in his groin area - absolutly nasty. I witnessed it. All he said was he could taste it a few seconds after. I knew him a few weeks after and he had no ill effects from it.
Lots of people take it for many years will no ill effects orally, of course injecting it will have some seriously fucked up results eventually, buy any substance your supposed to drink will.
The reporter obviously didn't get the contect of the word correct or the translated. That is what they call Krokil. Home made gear that causes the skins blood flow to restrict and the area rot away.
