Re: My Son Has Geographic Tongue

Yeah, I have this... it doesn't hurt at all unless I eat something spicy. Then the spices get caught in the cracks and BURNS. =)

Re: My Son Has Geographic Tongue

I know a person that has exactly this. I can answer to the question of "will it get better?" Yes and no.. by the age of 17 he will tolerate more of sour fruits, spicy food even eggplant but unfortunately his tongue will only slightly improve on how it looks.

Re: My Son Has Geographic Tongue

I got this when I was young from licking tang crystals and eating to many sunflower seeds.

Re: My Son Has Geographic Tongue

my daughter has a geographical tongue which was diagnosed when she was 7 or 8. She's 20 now and hasn't complained much about it in ages.

Re: My Son Has Geographic Tongue

I am 25 and have this problem.
It doesn't bother me much but sometimes when I eat salty/spicy/random foods all the skin just feels like it's come off my tongue for about an hour afterwards.
One time after eating a bunch of candy the pain was so bad I could barely move it ):

Re: My Son Has Geographic Tongue

Darkest Angel, I noticed that the lesions are around the edges of his tongue. Has he ever been told to use a night guard in his mouth when he sleeps ? A few years ago I had something like that and my doctors said in my sleep I was clinching down on my teeth and also biting down on my tongue. They made me a guard and it never happened again, I hope this has been tired on him as well because it is very painful. Good luck to your son in finding the help that he needs.

Re: My Son Has Geographic Tongue

i believe these lesions exist on his tongue becuz he had a severe case of thrush as a child. the doctors tried everything possible but it was very persistant, despite my boiling bottles & nipples between every use & very diligent hygiene. i don't know this is the case i only suspect. may possibly have been the meds that were used themselves. at any rate, the doctors say nothing can be done. he is 14 and still cannot eat or drink anything hot or even mildly spicy. even orange juice is uncomfortable.
I have this too. It doesn't hurt, there's absolutely no pain involved. It just looks different. Whenever people question it, I just tell them that I talk a lot, so people would tell me to bite my tongue and I did. It's amazing the number of people that think I'm being serious. xD

Re: My Son Has Geographic Tongue

That looks painful and like something I get when I eat too many sunflowers seeds or certain meds.I use warm salt water to gargle and biotene to brush with.
