I had friends that were xray techs and the scissors would be placed over the patient while taking the xray.

It's not 'a pair' of scissors. It is merely 'a scissors.' There is not one scissor and another scissor, and you bring them together and *voila*, a pair of scissors. You go to the store and say, "scissors, please", and the next thing you know, you have a scissors, or, more colloquially, scissors, in your hand. And then you swallow them with a big glass of water, natch. You're welcome! PS. At least you don't say "hung", when you mean "hanged", right?  |
