Hope he doesn't develop phantom limb pain Very sad, poor man resorting to this. I suffer severe neuralgia myself and it drove me to hospitalisation. I had a spinal cord stimulator implanted and it's one of the best things the NHS have done for me. I owe them my sanity. |

Re: Man Chops Off Own Hand with Homemade Guillotine
Chances are he'd been on gabapentin and pregabalin before getting this far, but that's an assumption based on my mother and I. I take gabapentin for fibromyalgia and I know there are days it doesn't even touch it, and my mum takes pregabalin for peripheral neuropathy and again, she's still in constant pain. There's days she says she wishes she could cut her hands and feet off.

It said they always give him a clean bill of health. Some people are in so much pain that cutting off limbs seems way better than living with the pain. They dont take into consideration phantom limb pain or the mental pain afterwards.

Re: Man Chops Off Own Hand with Homemade Guillotine
As the NHS said, and as this guy discovered, cutting off the body part where you feel the pain doesn't necessarily solve the problem. If the nerve malfunction is located somewhere else, such as the spinal cord or the brain, then you will continue to feel the pain. It's sort of like getting a mail bomb that has a return address in France, but is actually from Italy and was never even in France. Nuking France won't solve the problem because France was never the real source. |
