Re: Kidneys And Krap
Very sorry to hear that. If I were a little smarter and a lot more applied I'd be a nephrologist. Astonishing organs. When learning about them in my non-nephrologist course, I was most amazed by the fact the nephron (smallest functional unit of the kidney) filters *all* the liquid part of blood out leaving only protein to return to circulation, and then reclaims 99 per cent of it. It's easy to think they simply draw the nasties out of whole blood but they go in hard, suck out the lot, and pick what to reject. Specialised cells called podocytes have feet which wrap around the knot of capillaries which feed the nephron, featuring slits which can be widened or narrowed to change the filtration ratio. I could go on. Apparently 3D printing is delivering new dialysis filters which can be re-used. I assume you're on dialysis now - it's amazing dialysis exists, but I hope you find a transplant. |

Re: Kidneys And Krap
Well, this has been interesting.. The tests results were interesting, to say the least. Apparently a lot of the symptoms I suffered at home was due to the fact that, because of the weight of my kidneys, I split the entire length of my Linea alba (a connective tissue/tendon that keeps your "abs" or Rectus muscles together) from my breast bone to my pubic bone. The sudden shift of my internal organs is what caused a lot of my symptoms. They can not repair it surgically because the weight of my kidneys would just rip it open again, so for right now I'm in a full brace that goes from my sternum to my pelvis. I'm just tired a lot. I'm putting up a few pics so you can see how big a polycystic belly can be. Damn...do I look like 10 mile 'o rough road, http://i1184.photobucket.com/albums/...pser2opa6a.jpg http://i1184.photobucket.com/albums/...psnjrwdsvu.jpg http://i1184.photobucket.com/albums/...psndcosxub.jpg http://i1184.photobucket.com/albums/...pse2wodhe1.jpg |

Re: Kidneys And Krap
Those symptoms sounded like you were in shock. Yuck. Oh dear goodness your abdomen. That must be horrid! Can't they just remove both and put you on home PD?!? My aunt was on peritoneal dialysis for many years and did well. |
