I've seen a few from private nursing homes and a couple on stroke victims who lay incapacitated and undiscovered for days. Pretty rare to see one originate in hospital, but can happen in older knee/nof/hip replacement patients. We generally put them on an air mattress, use heel wedges, turn them at regular intervals and massage/rub when skin condition permits. Same goes for ICU patients, given their vulnerabilities. All cases of pressure ulcers are investigated here. |
