Re: I Fought the Dog and the Dog Won.
Never understood why some folks own animals they cant control if it gets out of hand. Stick to smaller breeds.

Re: I Fought the Dog and the Dog Won.
I really feel for you. I'm so sorry this happened to you. I own 5 Cane Corso (I love the mollosers) They're stupidly over sized teddy bears, trying to climb on my lap, trying to climb up so they can be carried (yes i don't know how but I manage it) but I always keep at the back of my kind that I need to be on guard and never under estimate them. If I didn't have complete control of them and keep them stimulated and well trained, I know that anything could possibly trigger them (as with any dog) but these being big dogs and the possibility of pack mentality kicking in, it isn't something I would ever walk away from. (4 of my 5 work alongside me in security so they're pretty much what we call bomb - proof, nothing *****'s them) Hope you heal up soon |

Re: I Fought the Dog and the Dog Won.
My mother in law had a rescue Pomeranian as well as 2 GSD. Pom was put down last year - out of the blue it attacked her nephew (40 years old) and done him some real damage. Just Because it's smaller, doesn't make it easier to control. 3 of us had hold of the bastard thing trying to release him but he had a good hold on his face and ripped half his cheek off. Didn't do anything out of the ordinary to the dog at all. For the last 2 years, everytime he visited, he would have the dog jump onto his lap and the dog would lick his cheek once as a kiss and then jump down. Happened as normal but after the lick it went savage for his face and tore from side to side. We are still not sure what triggered him. He was only 6 years old, had been with her for 2 years, was very well behaved (until then) highly trained and with a lovely temperament. |

Wow, sorry this happened and condolences for your loss. It couldn’t be something silly such as you being in his territory then denying him of a delicious chicken meal he’s been so desperate for could it? I think outside the box because it’s never been a box we should be thinking in, all is connected. The torus field. Anyhow, I hope you are well mended and moving forward. Best wishes. |

That sucks Great Danes are usually just big babies. He could of had a brain tumor. I've heard of dogs just snapping because they had some kind if brain damage occurring. That's a sad story I'm a cat person but I love big dogs. I have a Rottweiler and he's my baby but he was raised very strict and I never let my guard down completely, he is constantly supervised.

Re: I Fought the Dog and the Dog Won.
This is very scary to me. I have a cane corso/pit bull mix that has increasingly been acting 'odd'. She is only just over 3 so I dont know if dimentia only happens to older dogs (?). My bf thinks it's because she's a girl dog and is emotionally imbalanced, which although I believe he said as a partial dig at me, may not also be untrue. Anyhoo, sorry about your trauma and losing your boy.

Re: I Fought the Dog and the Dog Won.
I'll explain what happened. You treated an instinctual, opportunistic predator like a human child, and forgot about his instincts. The chicken was a high-value resource. He attacked you because that was HIS resource. Nothing unusual about that. The dog was being a dog. I see this kind of thing week in, week out (I'm a dog trainer/behaviorist and former working handler).
