I was under the impression that nitrous oxide was highly flammable? I mean, they add it to race engines right? Or am I just being ignorant here? I'm genuinely curious.

Well its actually an oxidizer. It helps combustion by creating more oxygen. Its not flammable by itself but will RAPIDLY speed up combustion of anything that is flammable or explosive. It will make an explosion bigger,( like in an automotive engine, itll add a kick in the ass to regular gasoline) but wont explode all on its own . If you light a match and open a nitrous bottle beside it, it will make the match burn bigger and faster but the nitrous itself wont catch fire. I hope that makes since.

It's a non flammable compound, and at dental offices the setup will have two tanks, one is oxygen and one is nitrous. They have to be at a certain level to prevent overdosing. It's also used on cars to increase engine power by oxidizing. Helium is flammable though and its also abused recreationally. My bets are on helium because unless these kids knew where to buy nitro or had a license to purchase nitrous oxide its highly unlikely. Helium on the other hand is much easier to get a hold of.

Here in the US you dont need a license to buy nitrous oxide, except if you want medical grade. The only difference ( according to Air Products corp) is the racing N2O has a sulfur additive to prevent people from trying to get fucked up on it. But you can remove it with a 4 stage filter, so i have been told LOL

It was something what they spray to clothes, anti-static stuff, can't remember the name.

Guy had 6% burns but It was all in his face if I remember correctly.

Sorry I tried to find their statement after they got out from hospital but could not now.
