This is nothing to do with religion and not a custom of islam, its cultural and mainly happens in Africa. Islamic scholars have said that, while male circumcision is a sunna, or religious obligation, female genital modification is not required and its not a religious requirement. |

"In the Islamic religion it is always said that girls should be circumcised just like boys." The boys lose their foreskin, ouch, but they'll get over it... The girls are left with nothing but the internal reproductive organs necessary to become pregnant and give birth, which by the way is no trip to the day spa. The males will still be able to enjoy sexual intercourse, where as the females might as well be raped. For the men having sex with these women, or children in some cases, you might as well give a paraplegic person a foot massage... I think they might 'not hate it as much'. |

Did some of my research on female circumcision. So fucking disgusting. You know though, they view it just like most Westerners view circumcision for boys (at least those Westerners who aren't against it) -- it is just something you do.

Incidentally, I don't see the need to mutilate any child's genitals unless there is a serious and urgent medical reason.

actually male cirucumcision is not better than non-circ. think about it, an open cut or scar is not healthier than what mother nature gave you. on another note, they rip out the bone in female cicumcision and every one will then rub down the area to confirm that the clit is gone... sounds more than painful. i agree that male circumcision is just as bad. i think it was made just so the priest could suck baby boys dingies (which was done and the past and sadly even now). baby boys have died due to circumcision shock and contracting herpes from priest giving them a blow job after the procedure. |

A subincision would be a better comparison, but as far as I know that ritual is entirely voluntary and is performed as an omage to the vagina
