They don't do it to "feel alive" they do it for attention. It's the ultimate form of being an attention whore, people are shocked by the display, then take pity on the emo person because of their injuries. They get attention throughout the whole process.

'Emo' is short for emotional, and is originally applied to a genre of music (which sucks). Now the term is more broadly used for those kids (although you don't have to be a kid) who are somewhere between goth and punk. They usually spend the majority of their days alone and crying and wishing the had boyfriends/girlfriends and of course cutting themselves.

I always flash on Sesame Street for a piece of a second when I hear the term.

Im getting more and more tired of seeing young ladies do this to themselves. And less and less shocked.

Like the most memorable part of this thread was pickle jar's username which involuntarily made me mouth water.
