Re: Baby With Harlequin Icthyosis

What pisses me off is that there are nutjobs who post videos of babies with HI and explain that the condition is a result of depleted uranium the US puts into its shells in combat situations. I love to remind the fuckwads who post that conspiracy bullshit that the first case of HI was reported in the US in 1750

Re: Baby With Harlequin Icthyosis

Why let a baby live like this? What kind of life would it have? If an animal was born like this it would put to sleep!!!! I say let this baby go to sleep and have it's peace!!!
Ask yourself -Would you want to live like this

Re: Baby With Harlequin Icthyosis

There are a couple pictures of harlequin icthyosis in some deformed babies threads. I've identified them but thought not to waste my time explaining it, I'm very grateful for this thread. It is a survivable condition and, over time, can become less damaging - the scarring does last for life however.
Nobody survives it when its as severe as these pictures. Heartbreaking isnt it? There are a couple of cases of kids who made it to adulthood but sadly they are rare. Its a devastating genetic defect. Hopefully genetics will be able to eradicate horrific genetic errors such as Harlequin Icthyosis one day.

Re: Baby With Harlequin Icthyosis

As a woman that's the thing that terrifies me most about pregnancy. Seeing the number of kids born with it, means it probably can't be detected before birth.

I know, I see pictures of babies with so many godawful birth defects and it makes me scared to death to get pregnant (not that I have much of a chance of that anyways)

Re: Baby With Harlequin Icthyosis

I honestly thought it wasn't a survivable condition. Learn something new all the time on here.
