Baby With Harlequin Icthyosis
This child was born in 2013 with the rare disease harlequin icthyosis which is characterized by a deficiency of the melanin layer of the skin making it brittle and can crack. It causes infections that leads to the child's death. It occurs about one in six million pregnancies and, yet, there were about six hundred cases worldwide. Couldn't locate this harrowing set on here but we do have a few threads on the subject. Further reading if you wish http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harlequin-type_ichthyosis |

Re: Baby With Harlequin Icthyosis
Poor baby indeed. When it's that severe, I think it's best to put the poor sod out of its misery.

Re: Baby With Harlequin Icthyosis
Why let a baby live like this? What kind of life would it have? If an animal was born like this it would put to sleep!!!! I say let this baby go to sleep and have it's peace!!! |

Re: Baby With Harlequin Icthyosis
There are a couple pictures of harlequin icthyosis in some deformed babies threads. I've identified them but thought not to waste my time explaining it, I'm very grateful for this thread. It is a survivable condition and, over time, can become less damaging - the scarring does last for life however.
