Vehicle airbags significantly reduce vehicle occupant injuries and fatalities in road accidents. However, a number of injuries are recognised as being directly attributable to airbag deployment. The majority of these are blunt injuries due to the high force of airbag deployment and include ocular injuries, burns, chest trauma and, rarely, fatalities. The authors describe a case of mixed blunt ocular and penetrating facial trauma as a result of airbag deployment.

That's why they say to sit at least 10/11 inches away from an airbag so you hit it in its deflation state

That's why there's a minimum safe distance to be from one, its designed so you hit it as it deflated rather than when its inflating or that's the kind of injury you'd get

Were they all really short? Seriously. I got had brush burns to my nose and chin, which was treated with triple antibiotic ointment. It's alot better than going through the windshield or out a door window depending how you're hit.
