Yes, I know where you're coming from. I would like to share your sympathies, but have lived and worked too long in Asia to do so. Individual lives just aren't that important, particularly those of girl children, in those cultures.

The thought of a broken Tap, and a child's fear, being some sort of bonus for this family, is even more tragic, but as you said, you have seen life in Asia.. I haven't... Girls are a burden to families that much I do know..

And I'm sure there is a reason the girl was literally 'scared to death' after breaking something so meaningless as a handle. Maybe she suffered regular beatings and abuse already and this was the final straw?

I've lived in Thailand and the Philippines for much of the last 25 years, life is cheap here, the values of life are different, some parents will sell girls this age into prostitution without a seconds thought!
