I think it was more of a fear of shaming, or disappointing her parents, than fear of physical reprisals. Just my interpretation of how her culture works, my opinion only. Thanks for this sensitive post, Mr.V.  |

I would think in cultures that make so much of shame that suicide would also be frowned upon. Christian religion often says suicides go straight to hell, which I don't believe at all personally. Just wondering in what twisted culture suicide would be favorable over the shame of a 10 year old breaking a faucet on complete accident?

Sadest thing I have seen on here, well one of them anyway, her parents will be devastated that their daughter thought death was a better option for her.. Children see things so differently than adults, we should always remember that, but this was one of these tragedies, that you can't for see... A bloody Dam Tap.. RIP child |

Don't assume that anyone will be "devastated". According to the post this was a poverty stricken family, and there is now one less mouth to feed. And in addition it is one less girl - no big loss for many in this part of the world.
