Horrible case. I can only assume that he, being the older one, drove the whole thing, but who knows? She looks pretty close to her mum in those pictures, but to have done it, seen it, hidden the body, then HE confessed...maybe not.

I get both of your points. This girl is only 12 years old, so very young, but she's old enough to know better. Think of the Jamie Bulger case, the two 10 year old boys did not serve much time considering what they did. Thompson hasn't been involved in crime since but Venables, what a piece of vile shit. He's been back to jail, what twice, for having indecent images of children. That sick fuck should've died a long time ago. |

A dichotomy for you: 12 year old girl willingly consents to having sexual intercourse with a 30 year old man that she claims to 'love.' What do we do? We say "A child of that tender age cannot POSSIBLY understand the various complex consequences and gravity of sex enough to consent! BURN THE MOLESTOR!" Then we have a 12 year old girl who, along with her older boyfriend, commits a heinous crime in murdering her mother. What do we do? "The evil bitch is old enough to know better! TRY HER AS AN ADULT AND PUT HER IN THE ELECTRIC CHAIR!" How is this contrast possibly established out of ANYthing less than sheer bloodthirst? No, I'm sorry but no. A civilized society does not hold 12 year old children to the same standard as adults on ANY issue, let alone capital crimes. To me, the idea of executing a 12 year old for a crime is every single bit as ridiculous as the idea of saying that 12 is a valid age of consent for sexual intercourse. |

You do make a very valid point Ved' + I do agree with you. But murder isn't a usual thing that people do, having sex is. But yes I definitely agree with you that a 12 year old has no business having sexual relations (I personally would put the age of consent right up, I think it's way too young at 16). But murder + sex are 2 completely different things. It's in our nature to want sex, it's how we carry on the human race. Normal people don't go around killing people, there's something very wrong in their minds to make them do that. It's an awkward one for me because I see both sides to the argument. |

Oh, there's definitely something wrong with a 12 year old involved in her mother's murder. I'm not saying the kid should get a pass and go back to school with an apple for teacher. Only that if we, as a society, are not willing to trust a 12yo's good judgement about sex, how dare we execute them because we arbitrarily decided that they were mature enough to understand one set of consequences but not the other? No, she needs to be institutionalized. As you said, there's something wrong with her brain and it is our duty as a responsible society to try and fix it. But we sure as hell have no right murdering her for it. Not if we are all too willing to declare her utterly devoid of proper judgment on issues like having sex, drinking bourbon, driving a car, etc. |
