A Woman and Two Cows Were Killed by Lightning
More than 100 homes have been destroyed, another person killed and several people injured as storms continue to cut a swathe through Cambodia. A woman and two cows were killed by lightning yesterday in a rice field in Kampong Chhnang province’s Veal Veng district. In Siem Reap province’s Pouk district, 57 houses were torn down and three people injured on Monday evening, while in Stung Treng province no injuries were reported as two houses and nine electricity poles collapsed. Tep Pumsen, Pouk district police chief, said, “The storm mainly affected two communes in our district. Two people were hurt as houses collapsed and a man was injured by lightning. More rain is forecast and we are asking for villagers to take great care in these conditions.” The National Police said the storm also hit three districts in Battambang province yesterday, destroying 80 houses in Moung Russei, Koas Krala and Banon districts. In Pursat province, nine houses were damaged in Veal Veng district. More than a thousand rubber trees were uprooted in Preah Sihanouk province’s Stung Hav district. Keo Vy, a spokesman for the National Committee for Disaster Management, said 12 people had been killed and more than 1,000 houses damaged by storms since the start of the year. The trail of destruction had affected 17 provinces, causing injuries to another 25 people and the deaths of 12 cattle. He added that 180 houses had been destroyed, 885 had lost their roofs and walls, while 13 school buildings and some administrative buildings had also been damaged. The affected provinces are Takeo, Kampong Speu, Prey Veng, Ratanakkiri, Kampong Thom, Kampong Cham, Pursat, Battambang, Siem Reap, Banteay Meanchey, Oddor Meanchey, Pailin, Kratie, Svay Rieng, Preah Sihanouk, Preah Vihear and Tbong Khmum. The Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology has warned the storms are expected to continue until Saturday. |

The lightning did not hit him direct or his hat and shoes would have been blown off...most likely current from a nearby strike traveled through the wet ground and killed them.
