Thank you. I can never win with these people. Even if I don't slag trans people off, I get people like these taking 'offence', it's bloody ridiculous.

They can argue until they're blue in the face but they cannot deny the fact that if you were born male, you will always be male, no amount of hormone pills, feminine clothing or surgery is going to change that.

One day there will be a thread on the death of a trans person without arguments...I won't hold my breath though!

If I may, I would suggest you try to imagine “trans” means “fake” like the other guy said, though technically it means “twisted across” more or less. You obsess over the details of people’s stories, and I love it. This is one of those details. If it is possible to get consistent with the existing terminology, the one used for accuracy, then the potential for MTF/FTM confusion goes away, without you needing to adopt a different view on the matter. And then we don’t get umpteen pages of whatever. Win-win?

Sex refers to chromosomes, gender refers to social role. A person cannot change their sex, but they can change their gender. Usually sex and gender are in alignment, but not always.

I remember a science professor from college telling our class the same thing. She said "gender" was a social, not scientific, term.
