I don't agree that what she did was selfish. Depression, even short term deppression brought about by trauma, can be devastatingly crippling to someone's mental health. While I don't want to presume anything in this poor lady's case, there are circumstances where she might feel that there is absolutely no other option other than to die.

I have also made a serious attempt at suicide due to crippling depression. But not in the presence of a child.
