I don't agree that what she did was selfish. Depression, even short term deppression brought about by trauma, can be devastatingly crippling to someone's mental health. While I don't want to presume anything in this poor lady's case, there are circumstances where she might feel that there is absolutely no other option other than to die.

I know this because I have suffered from deppression and suicidal tendencies since I was in my teens, that's more than 20 years. In my case, I have the support and love of family and friends, and professional help & medication, which does relieve the worst of it somehow.

I have been hospitalized for suicide attempts more than 5 times and although I suck at dying, sometimes it really does feel like the best solution to everything.

There's nothing selfish about it because it cannot be controlled or switched off.
