Flies tend to lay their eggs inside bodily orifices, nose, mouth etc, thus the soft tissue surrounding said orifices is the first to be consumed by larvae. I can imagine that once the maggots start munching, decomposition is hastened. Think I read something to that effect in my forensic pathology book... It also appears that the facial area was exposed first, probably by a dog, for a period of time before the rest of the body was exhumed. Animals commonly prefer to consume facial tissue first. |
