Prominent Defense Attorney Assassinated in Paraguay
A defense lawyer whose career-making case has been the legal defense of a pair of narco kingpins was shot in the street yesterday evening. In the 18 months since taking the case, she has received hundreds of death threats, ostensibly from drug rivals of her clients, but also several from 'citizens' who resent her defending such hardened criminals. She typically travels only in an armored car and was known to wear a bullet proof vest for most of her public appearances. Unfortunately for her, she did not have the vest on last night and was ambushed while walking from a building to a vehicle. The CCTV video included shows the entirety of the hit, where a hooded man runs towards her out of a Toyota, fires ten times, and then flees. She was struck with about half of the shots and rushed to a nearby hospital for surgery, but she died of her injuries about an hour later. |

Re: Prominent Defense Attorney Assassinated in Paraguay
It's somewhat peculiar she didn't wear the vest then even though she apparently was receiving constant threats. Yes, it may have been that she simply forgot to bring it but given the circumstances, even the most forgetful individual would've likely remembered to wear it in public at all times. |

Re: Prominent Defense Attorney Assassinated in Paraguay
There was no mention of why she chose to eschew the vest in this case. In fact, in most of the early articles it was stated that she was wearing the vest and it saved her life. It wasn't until after she had died that one of the doctors in the hospital informed journalists that she had no vest on. Maybe she just forgot. Maybe someone in her camp set her up. No one seems to be speculating thus far. But aside from the bullet that obviously shattered her arm, every single shot hit center mass. No head shots, no leg shots, no groin shots. All center. So chances are good that she WOULD still be alive if she'd worn the vest. |

Re: Prominent Defense Attorney Assassinated in Paraguay
Head shots on a moving target in the dark are tough, even at that range. He was clearly aiming for the best impact zone, which was center mass. Even then, he tagged her arm and half his shots missed her completely. But given how most of the shots hit her upper torso, even if not well grouped, and given that she was publicly known to wear the vest at all times, it does make one wonder if he knew going in that she wasn't wearing it last night. |

True, the shooter was shooting from inside a Toyota truck as well so that probably made it more difficult. You'd think narco's would be better aim |

Re: Prominent Defense Attorney Assassinated in Paraguay
Shit, I'm getting old. I didn't even see the guy firing blind out the window of the Toyota. I only saw the guy who actually exited the vehicle and fired at her on foot from about 8 feet away. I didn't think he had time to fire ten rounds, so I was confused AF. Thanks for pointing out the second shooter. LOL

Re: Prominent Defense Attorney Assassinated in Paraguay
Without knowing the caliber of the weapon used, I withhold my opinion. Five shots from point blank range center of mass have a very good chance of killing you anyway with a IIIa type vest or lower. Even without penetration the blunt force of five shots point blank in the chest is no joke. Of course her chances of survival with a vest are better than without - that goes without saying. I'm just pointing out that people do still die from gunshot impacts when wearing lower levels of armor.

9mm in this case. One hit to the arm, a superficial graze to the neck, two in the chest and one in the abdomen, directly beneath the xyphoid process.
