Erika and her daughter Karla (no ages provided) were found on the side of the road by workers going to work at the ranchería San Gregorio in Tabasco, MX.

It was determined that both women had been kidnapped from Erika's home in Paraíso a little after midnight the night before. Neighbors reported that a group of fived armed men arrived, woke the women up, yelling at them to get dressed, and then dragged them to a pickup truck and drove off.

At some point between their abduction and the farmers' grisly dawn discovery, both women were bound with tape at their wrists and ankles. Karla had a plastic bag wrapped around her head and both their heads and faces were then also tightly wrapped with layers of tape so that both their noses and mouths were obstructed, resulting in an agonizing death by suffocation.

Both women had a few bruises on their bodies, but no significant injury, which helped the police conclude that they had died by suffocation from the tape. Their bodies also had several signs of death by asphyxia, including cyanosis and relaxation of the sphincters as evidenced in the photos by the visible urine stains on their jeans.

Their shirts were both pulled up to expose their breasts and they were barefoot, with no shoes or sandals located on the scene.

A sign was placed next to Erika's corpse that read, "Keep believing in fairy tales" Other newspapers translated is "Keep believing in dirty stories/filthy lies."

Neither of the women have any formally noted criminal history, though several commenters have said that Karla, the daughter, had a husband/boyfriend involved in a drug Cartel. It is possible that the killers were looking for him and, unable to locate him, took his wife and mother-in-law instead.

The tape on Erika's wrists is torn and it appears that she (or someone) was perhaps pulling at the tape on her face. Whether this happened before or after her death is unknown, but the lack of commentary about it in any of the reports tells me that it was probably a paramedic or the farmers who found her trying to look for vital signs.

Note: I had to remove some aggressive watermarking, so some of the text of the sign (along with other possible visual artifacts) is corrupted. The bulk of the images are not affected.

Maybe the food did kill her; like if she refused to give up her special Tamales recipe, even after the cartel boss requested it several times
