Guatemalan Soldier Is Believed To Have Shot Himself In the Head
La Gomera, Escuintla, Guatemala A 20-year-old soldier, Mario O.O.M., died from a gunshot wound to the head. Mario was guarding the entrance of a surveillance base when he died. According to another soldier at the scene, Mario had been seen talking on his phone moments before a gunshot was heard. The weapon used was a 5.56-caliber M16 rifle, of the type used by the Guatemalan Army. Some sources reported that Mario's last phone call had been with his partner. It is preliminarily believed that Mario had committed suicide, but the circumstances surrounding the incident have not yet been fully clarified.     |
