Just a theory but if it was attack wouldnt he have defense bites on his arms from blocking the animal? I feel inclined to think maybe this guy was passed out or possibly dead on the floor and thats how comes the injury is confined to the face. Ive seen many times where an owner has died/ passed out and there dog has tried to wake them by first licking their face, the nipping which eventually ends up as eating their face. It happens quite often.
