The Claude Ballot-Lena, Jean-Claude Andruet NART Ferrari 365 GTB/4 at the 1973 Daytona 24 hours. Claude Ballot-Lena was at the wheel at the time of the crash.

Michael Curtis Waltrip's huge crash at the Bristol Motor Speedway in 1990 after hitting the end of a wall and completely destoying his Pontiac. He somehow walked away with only cuts and bruises.

My turn... I was at this race. It's very eerie to hear 110k+ people go from yelling their heads off to complete silence in a single heartbeat. We were all sure Michael was dead, or, at the very least seriously hurt. The pics really don't do the crash justice. The car only landed a few short feet from where it impacted the gate/wall joint. When Michael got out of the car a few seconds later, and waved to the crowd, those same 110k+ people yelled even louder than before.  |

Frenchman Alexandre Premat walked away from this huge crash at Adria in Italy during a round of the German Touring Car Championship in 2010. New Zealand racer Chris van der Drift's huge crash during a Superleague race at Brands Hatch in 2010. Chris broke his ankle, shoulder and some fingers but made a full recovery and now races in the Auto GP Series, winning one race this year.

This is the crash that ended motor racing legend Emerson Fittipaldi's Indy car career after 22 wins, two Indy 500 victories, the Indycar Championship in 1989 and runner-up in '93 and '94. Prior to this Emerson was twice F1 World Champion in '72 and '74 winning 14 races. These photos are from the Michigan 500 1996 and Fittipaldi suffered a broken neck on the impact which he would in time make a full recovery from.  ·  · |
