No way Walther was hit from behind as this spectator video clearly shows. He squeezed right into the car next to him all on his own.

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)
Clearly he wasn't hit from behind, but I suspect he was playing the racers trick of "well my front wheels were ahead of his, so he hit me from behind!" Sad that such a misjudgement would cause such lasting difficulties for the remainder of his life. Of course given the disasters that occurred that year he may have been considered lucky. |

If you look at the photo of Don as he is hitting the wall - and the front of his car is being sheared off - I just hope that took his life instead of being hit and having your legs scrambled by another car. His head looks like it's hitting the wall in that photo. RIP.

Great photo of two Porsche 917's drifting around Brands Hatch during the 1000km race of 1970. Pedro Rodriguez is driving the number 10 Gulf sponsored car from the John Wyer Automotive Engineering works team and Vic Elford is in the number 11 Porsche Salzburg version. Pedro won the race after a fantastic display in the horrible conditions clear of the rest by a full five laps, Vic finished second. |

Five laps ahead. ~ Unbelievable ` The Rain Master A few highlights of the race are on YouTube. Shows the horrendous rain and failing light conditions. Ferrari, Jack Bradman, lots of small collisions. It's fun to look back at the refuel practice in pit lane. LINK: |

The aftermath of Patrick Depailler's collision with his Equipe Alpine-Renault team-mate Jean-Pierre Jabouille at the second corner, the North Curve, of the Nurburgring 300km race in 1976, which left his car looking like a pile of trash. 'Depailler, having lost ground in the slippery South Curve, passed Stommelen's Porsche 936 along the straight behind the pits, then attempted to outbreak team-mate Jabouille to lead the race. Depailler braked a moment too late, slewed side-ways in front of Jabouille, and in an instant both cars were careering off the track and through the catch-fences. Depailler's car was wrecked, Jabouille's wasn't fit to continue.' The team excluded Depailler for three races as punishment for this embarrassing and costly mistake. |

One of the most bizarre creations ever to race at Le Mans, the Briggs Cunningham entered Cadillac Spider, or the "Le Monstre" as the French named it. It was fitted with a Cadillac 5.4L V8 and a 'steamlined' body that took part in the 1950 race and actually finished in 11th place.
