Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)

Nasty looking ejection of Ferrari driver Mike Parkes at Spa in 1967. He went off on oil dropped by Jackie Stewart's BRM, the car hitting a bank and turning over, as seatbelts were not worn at this time Mike was thrown from the car 'bending his kness forwards' as he did so, (ouch).
Parkes suffered multiple broken bones and compound fractures but returned to sportcar racing then team management before being killed in a road crash in 1977.

Nothing new just a much better quality photo.

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)

Mario Alborghetti's first and last GP was at the non-championship race at Pau in 1955 driving for the Volpini-Arzani team. He appeared to accelerate rather than brake when getting lapped by a faster car and crashed into straw bales, causing fatal head and chest injuries.

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)

Brian Henton crashes his Toleman TG181 Hart during qualifying for the 1981 British GP at Silverstone.

Brian had won the 1980 European Formula Two Championship in a Toleman before following the team into F1 but only made it into one race. He took part in 19 races from 37 attempts with a best result of 7th. He had made his F1 debut in 1975 with Lotus.
Just to clarify, the little inset picture is Andrea DeCesaris (DeCrasheris) rolling his Ligier at Austria in 1985.... DeCrasheris could have a thread all of his own! Not for nothing was he on the original Deathlist.net in 1987!

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)

Austrian driver Hans Klaus Reisch's fatal crash in the Imola 500 km race on 12th September 1971.

On the 22nd lap of the first heat, in very wet conditions, Hans lost control of his privately entered Alfa Romeo 33/3 spinning out of the final bend and crashing with a great impact backwards into the pitwall. The car erupted into flames and Reisch's body was thrown onto the track. He died soon afterwards of multiple injuries.
A selection of amazing photos from a magazine report of the time and three black and whites previously posted.

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)

Argentine driver Oscar Mauricio Franco's huge 1970 crash in his Berta LR during practice for a local sportcar race.

When it started to rain heavily, Oscar crashed and was ejected from the car, one report from the time even states that his crash helmet was ripped off although this seems unlikely as his only stated injury was a dislocated shoulder.

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)

Norberto José Polinori was known as the 'El Caballero de la Ruta' (Road's Knight) due to his unselfish and friendly style.

He lost his life during the Argentine Turismo Carretera road races during 1967 when a number of cars collided including Juan Carlos Perkins.

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)

Argentine motorsport has a rich heritage but a dark past of tragic crashes that took many of the top drivers of the 60's and '70's.

This was another huge loss, the death of César Horacio Malnatti and co-driver Gorosito Michelangelo during a road race in 1973. The car left the road during a battle with Juan María Traverso, hit a bank and split in two, the front of the car including its motor nearly hitting spectators.

Jackie Oliver's Lotus (right) and Bruce McLaren's McLaren (left), collide and retire on the opening lap of the 1968 Monaco GP.
