Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)
The photo for this post is small but this is the only one I've ever seen for Austrian driver Hans Klaus Reisch's fatal crash in the Imola 500 km race in 12th September 1971. On the 22nd lap of the first heat, in very wet conditions, Hans lost control of his privately entered Alfa Romeo 33/3 spinning out of the final bend and crashing with a great impact backwards into the pitwall. The car erupted into flames and Reisch's body was thrown onto the track. He died soon afterwards of multiple injuries. |

It's the Imola 500km race again this time 1970 and the great F1 and Sportscar driver Pedro Rodriguez has to spin his Porsche 917 to try to avoid the Burton/Bamford Chevron who has lost it right in front of him. Pedro hit the dirt bank on the inside and had to retire from the race. |

Andre Haller in a Datsun 260Z shared with Claude Buchet and Jean-Luc Favresse in the 1976 Le Mans 24 hours. On his very first lap out of the pits, he lost control of the 260Z at the entrance of the Mulsanne kink. The car spun several times hitting the armco barrier, flipping over it into the trees and catching fire. Haller was rescued from the wreck, but died a few hours later at hospital of chest injuries. |

Frenchman Patrick Reichrath's fatal crash on the 11th Abreshviller Hill Climb in 1981 driving a Renault Alpine. Patrick's car left the road close to the finish on a practice run, plunging down a bank and into the trees. As you can see from the photo a tree hit directly on the cockpit killing the driver instantly. |

Frenchman Philippe Alliot's huge crash coming out of the fearsome Peraltada Curve at 150mph during practice for the Mexican GP 1988 in his Lola LC88. Alliot's rode the curb on the outside which pitched the car into the pit wall completely destroying the car, which Alliot managed to crawl out of bruised but otherwise uninjured. Alliot won a F3000 race in 1986, scored five points in F1, the best result being 5th and enjoyed considerable success with the Peugeot team in Sportcar racing. |

Brazilian driver Maurício Gugelmin in his March CG891 crashes into the rear of Nigel Mansell's Ferrari at the first corner of the French GP 1989 at the Paul Ricard curcuit and all hell breaks loose... Maurício won the British F3 Championship in '85, one F3000 race in '87 and joined the March F1 team in 1988. He took part in 80 GP with a best result of 3rd in '89. He then went to Indycar winning a race in 1997. |
