Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)
Many thanks to "The Fastlane Motorsports Forum" and their dedicated members for many of the aforementioned pictures. No offense or disrespect is intended...just wanted to share. Again, thank you.

I was using my Kindle last night and each time I thought I was hitting "thanks" it gave a groan...I'm sorry! Trying to find/remove them now...this is a fantastic thread...nothing to groan about!

That is insane! I was on my Kindle last night and could not view any of your videos...so here I sit on my lap top watching them now. This thread is fascinating and you all have done such an amazing job putting all of this together.

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)
Mark Donohue's crash was down to a punctured tire (see, it happened way before Pirelli came on the scene!) and even though he was conscious & lucid after the crash, he'd sustained a brain bleed which led to his death 2 days later. His crash also resulted in the death of a marshal & injuries to another I believe. Donohue's widow sued - and won, cos it's America of course - Goodyear. The only upside of this fatality was it was added to the medical history and you rarely see any driver released immediately if there is a slightest chance of a brain issue, it's not quite on a par with boxing's safeguards, but it's pretty good. |

Bob Slater's fatal crash at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines in 1955. Bob who was 29 at the time and the IMCA Champion was leading the 50 mile dirt track race when he crashed heavily at the first turn.

Carl Bergkvist's violent fatal crash at the Eldora Speedway in 1973. The rollcage caved in after heavy contact with the guardrail.
