Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)

Un-fucking-believable

I have had the Rich Vogler video for the last two weeks!

It was sitting in my Spam instead of my Inbox

When I sent out some feelers after Rustymustangs request I didnt hear back from anyone

But apparently the day after I did that one of my longtime race/crash contacts sent me the video and it ended up in my email Spam (maybe due to the size of the file?)

So for two weeks I have had this rare video and instead of double checking my email like any smart person would do, I walk around with my thumb up my ass hoping someone out there recorded it back in the day and will by the grace of god get a hold of me first so I can post the video

What a clusterfuck of an operation I have running over here

Anyways not to make light of Rich Voglers horrific death in any way, the contact told me that Richs helmet contained his head and that he was decapitated

I can not back that claim up because I have no facts about Voglers death at all

But the contact has a vast knowledge base and I trust what he says on any issue, so take from that what you will

RIP Rich, I remember you well from all the Indy 500s that you were in during the 1980s
rich was not decapitated..his jaw was broken when his head contacted the pole...when his jaw broke it allowed the helmet to slip off..i knew his mother for years and visited her often. she kept richs helmet and uniform in a box for years in here garage. when she moved she had the helmet ground up and burned it in a barrel behind her home

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)

No doubt Vogler was an amazing driver

Sometimes I wish I had paid more attention to Sprint/Midget Racing back in the day

But for whatever reason I kinda just brushed it aside

I knew even back then that Vogler was one of if not the best Sprint/Midget drivers of that era

But again (like the picture im about to post) I remember him most from all the Indy 500s he appeared in
I had the honor of racing with rich many times in midget cars...

Scotsman Jim Crawford's practice crash at Indy 500 1990.

Crawford drove in two GP's for Lotus in 1975 and finished 6th at Indy 500 in 1988 after suffering serious leg injuries at the same race a year earlier.

Jim retired in 1995 and died in 2002.

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)

A couple of photo's that I don't remember being posted of Salt Walther's huge crash at Indy 1973. He suffered 40% burns and badly injured hands, parts of his left hand had to be amputated.

He became addicted to painkillers after the accident and has spent time in prison due to these issues.

Best result at Indy was 9th in 1976 and best Indycar result was 7th on four occasions during 64 career starts.
salt died in December of 2012..age 65 of drug overdose in Dayton..i met salt a couple times several years ago at a collector show in indy..he stated that foyt hit him causing the accident

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)

Eddie Hasha crashes at the New Jersey Motordrome in Newark, New Jersey on September 8th 1912, in front of 5000 spectators.

Hasha lost contol on the highly banked, boarded track on lap three after having issues with a misfire. The bike turned sharply right into the rail and rode along it for over one hundred feet, killing a boy who had his head over the rail watching the race.

Hasha was thrown into the spectator enclosure after hitting a post losing his life and killing at least four others. His bike continued along and then down the track, hitting the last placed rider, Johnny Albright who died of his injuries four hours later.

This crash would lead to the phasing out of the old wood board tracks.

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)

The Gran Premio De Venezuela road race from 1957 and a huge crash. The first car is the Maserati 450S of Harry Schell, the second Jo Bonnier's Maserati 300S. Both walked away.

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)

A huge crash for Jo Bonnier again, this time at the Brands Hatch 500 km of 1969 in a Lola T70. Jo would lose his life after his Lola left the track and flew into the trees during the 1972 Le Mans.
