Felice Bonetto was leading the Carrera Panamericana in 1953 in a Lancia before losing control at around 125 mph and crashing into a lamp-post, instantly losing his life. Bonetto had won the non-Championship Portuguese Grand Prix in 1953 as well as the 1952 Targa Florio. |

Windowlicker, Enjoy your posts, especially the unusual race cars. Do you remember or know of the Tyrrell P34? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tyrrell_P34 or the Pat Clancy Special that raced in the 1948 Indy 500? |

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)
There has been a number of posts covering Italian Ferrari driver Lorenzo Bandini's fatal crash at the Monaco GP in 1967 but I think these photos are new to the thread. Lorenzo lost control on lap 82 at the chicane and the car overturned after hitting straw bales at the side of the course and burst into flames. The driver was trapped in the burning wreck and when he was finally dragged clear he had suffered terrible burns and chest injuries, which he sadly succumbed to three days later. |

From Wiki, 'The chicane was removed in 1985, but another chicane called the "Inner Loop" was installed in 1992 after a fatal accident during the previous year's NASCAR Winston Cup event.' |
