A few more images and an interesting visualisation of the tragic Indy 500 crash in 1964 that cost the lives of Eddie Sachs and Dave MacDonald.

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)
The fatal crash of AAA National Champion 1940/41, Rex Mays at the Del Mar track in California 1949. He swerved to miss a crashed car and flipped, was thrown out and hit by another car. Rex took pole at the Indy 500 in 1935, 1936, 1940 and 1948, led 266 laps but never won the race. Best results were 2nd in 1940/41. |

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)
A couple of photo's that I don't remember being posted of Salt Walther's huge crash at Indy 1973. He suffered 40% burns and badly injured hands, parts of his left hand had to be amputated. He became addicted to painkillers after the accident and has spent time in prison due to these issues. Best result at Indy was 9th in 1976 and best Indycar result was 7th on four occasions during 64 career starts. |

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)
As I already explained the Swede Savage crash hurts me more then any other as my mom grew up watching him race in Southern California and had a huge crush on him She saw the crash on TV and refused to watch the Indy 500 after that This clip of the real race as seen on TV is so chilling because Jim McKay always knew what to say in any situation Yet all he can get out when Savage hits the wall is a loud gasp followed by "Thats the worst thing I have ever seen on a racetrack or anywhere" I think that sums up how my mom and everybody else watching felt about it as well RIP Swede |

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)
Not sure if this has already been posted... A young crew member for Savage's Patrick Racing teammate Graham McRae, Armando Teran, ran out across the pit lane in an effort to help Swede but was hit by a fire truck at 60mph... |

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)
I always try to mention Armando Teran but forgot in my last post, at the end of the Savage clip I just posted you can hear the woman in the stands scream when Teran is hit by the safety truck
