Top German driver Gerhard Mitter's fatal crash at the Nurburgring in 1969 during the Grand Prix but in the F2 car section. It is believed that the BMW 269-4 lost a wheel during practice and the car left the curcuit at high speed. Gerhard took part in seven GP's four in GP cars and three in F2 cars. He finished 4th at the German GP in 1963 and drove for Porsche in Sportcars winning the Austrian GP in 1966 and the Targa Florio in '69. He was also the European Hillclimb Champion three times between 1966 to 1968. |

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)
My first post on this thread was the fatal crash of Swiss driver Jo Siffert at the Non-Championship F1 race at Brands Hatch. Something, possibly suspension, broke on Jo's BRM and the car hit the bank, overturning and catching fire. There are a few new photos about, the first one is particulary sad and the only one I have seen with Jo visable in the car... Jo died of asphyxia having survived the impact with just a broken leg. |

Oscar Mauricio Franco goes under the barrier in his F3 car at Buenos Aires during the 1968/9 Argentinian F3 Championship. He was one of the lucky one's who were able to walk away from an accident of this type. Oscar was a hero in Argentina driving saloon cars, rallying and single seaters. |

Andrea Vianini's career ending crash on October 4th 1970. He was racing a Baufer-Chevrolet during a Sport Car Championship race at Las Flores circuit when trying to get past a backmarker he took to the grass went over the barrier and crashed very heavily. Andrea damaged his back and was sadly confined to a wheelchair.
