Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)
A crash during the 2012 Targa Florio which is now run as a rally rather than a road race for sportscars that it used to be. In an accident that looks very similar to Robert Kubica's Craig Breen was the driver of the Peugeot during the International Rally Challenge when it left the road and the armco barrier entered the car killing the co-driver Gareth Roberts. |

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)
A few crashes from the 1973 Targa Fiorio. The first three are our old friend Clay Regazzoni in a Alfa Romeo 33TT12, the next four are Jacky Ickx in a Ferrari 312P on the opening lap. The next three are the Alfa of Andrea de Adamich, the last two are 'quick' Vic Elford in the Porsche 908. 1973 was the last year of the 'real' Targa that started in 1906. |

Great! The red/Cyan pictured here are the ones to order for your free pair. They're cardboard and can be worn over regular glasses for viewing anaglyphs. Thanks for the response.

Ho-Pin Tung's crash on Pole Day for the 2011 Indy 500 in his Dragon Racing car. He was the first Chinese driver to attempt to qualify for the 500 but this accident meant he missed the cut. He made his IndyCar debut later that season in August at the Infineon Raceway.

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)
Don Garlits at the Wilmington track for a round of the AHRA Grand American. Just after his burnout Garlits noticed a small sound from the transmission. "I heard a little jingling noise, just a tiny little jingling noise after the burnout. And I thought 'what the hell was that?' That was the drum not being in that constant lube, see." The official Lions Track Clock read 5:25 on the Tower Bridge when the lights went green. Swamp Rat 13 exploded at the line. Parts of the severed drum broke free of the housing and hit the timing pole in front of Larry Sutton, the track starter. The ripped in two and the driver compartment flipped over. Garlits explains what happened next. "There was this explosion, and I lost consciousness momentarily, 'cause the 8mm film that just surfaced of the accident show my arms dangling out of the car. And when I came to I thought the clutch had blown and I was in the traps, and I was in the cage tumbling. I thought 'God I hope this thing don't hit something', cause that is what killed so many guys, the cages hitting telephone poles and shit, see. And then it all just stopped and all these guys were rushing around me and I realized that I was still at the starting line." "Mickey Thompson came up there, and he looked at my foot. You couldn't actually see my foot with the boots and all, but you could see it was all mangled up. So Mickey Thompson took that leg up under his arm just like that so I couldn't see it while they unbuckled me and got me out of the car." Larry Sutton, the track starter - "The car didn't move right after the dry hop and I knew something was wrong with the car, I have seen enough cars race to know the difference. So I knew something stupid was going to happen I just didn't know what. I push the button, Garlits' car exploded and something hit the pole in front of my face, cutting the timing lights wire." Spectators were showed with shrapnel a number of whom were badly injured. A piece of the drum from Garlits exploding transmission had launched across the track and hit Tim Ditt in the chest at about the left nipple. It cut across his left chest about ten inches along to his side. It traveled along his left side and cut though 98% of his left arm. He lost a lot of blood but made a full recovery. Garlits broke his left leg, lost most of his foot and toes, but within four months was racing again. |

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)
A bizarre crash for Juan Pablo Montoya at this years Daytona 500 when in the rain hit race and under caution he spun out when he touched the painted line and hit a jet drier truck with 200 gallons of kerosene onboard. He said afterwards, "I've hit a lot of things but a jet dryer? It just felt really strange, and as I was talking on the radio, the car just turned right." |
