Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)

David Reutimann at Watkins Glen 2011 getting taken out in someone else's crash. Ragan and Said clashed and David ran into them leaving his car total wrecked.

“This is one of the bigger hits I would say, but it’s part of the gig,” Reutimann said. “You sign up to do this stuff every once and a while and you’re going to hit something. As fast as we’re going, you hit stuff pretty hard. I’m good and will be ready for Michigan next week. I’m thinking where I hit would probably be a good place for safer barriers. So, maybe we should look at that next time we come back. Overall, I’m okay and ready to get out of here.”

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)

Tuka Rocha's Hyundai goes up in smoke during a Brazilian Touring Car race. He managed to get the car stopped and jump out without in jury.

Christiano “Tuka” Rocha won numerous karting championships in Brazil from 96 to 2000. After he moved to South American Formula 3 Lights. In 2002 he moved to Europe to compete in the World Series by Nissan where he was Ricardo Zonta’s teammate. In 2008 Tuka was chosen to drive the Flamengo’s car in Formula Superleague.

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)

Some assorted flat pictures that have been converted to 3D anaglyphs:
If I post a pic on here would it be much trouble to convert it to 3D? I love this pic, even though it's one of me spinning out! lol Just great quick camera work and I'm up on the wheel. Thanks in advance if u can! I'd love to save it to my computer after it's converted!!! Maybe my other fav pic??? I have no clue how difficult it is, and if it's too much don't jack with it. If u can I'd be ETERNALLY grateful. These are my favorite 2 pics of me racing. Just think it'd be cool to have them in 3D!

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)

Do they ship these glasses to the UK?
Probably. 3D photography seems to be more popular in Europe and Asia than in the USA.

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)

Ho-Pin Tung's crash on Pole Day for the 2011 Indy 500 in his Dragon Racing car. He was the first Chinese driver to attempt to qualify for the 500 but this accident meant he missed the cut. He made his IndyCar debut later that season in August at the Infineon Raceway.
This is the first crash I had actually been down in the Garages as it happened. It was really cool. The sound of him hitting the wall RESONATED throughout the entire Garage Area. It was really unlike the sound of any other crash anywhere else. An immediate hush fell over the entire Garages. You could've heard a pin drop. Workers quit working... Everyone was standing around watching the tv's in their garages. Once everyone knew he was okay, all went back to normal. It was just really neat to see. Racing is so different than any other sport or anything else... It TRULY is a family. Even if that was their arch-rival they stopped what they were doing. You could see the concern on everyone's face. This is one of the reasons I love racing. Even small dirt tracks around here... We had a guy get his neck broken a couple years back, and every race us drivers went through the crowd taking donations in our helmets for him. When a brother is down we step up to the plate!

I'd be happy to give them a shot. It's not much work to convert them at my skill level, which is very basic. I'll give you a link to some experts on Flikr. Their photos take a lot of work and time. I'm satisfied with mediocre pics, but a lot of them.

The conversion program I use is GIMP 2.8, but you can find lots of others on the Internet. GIMP 2.8 is good enough for my skill level, plus it's free. Try it and you'll be able to improve on my pictures in no time.

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)

The young Swiss driver, Tommy Spychiger, died in the 1000km of Monza while driving a 4.4 litre Ferrari 365 P2, after trying to recover lost time from a pit stop to change drivers.

The red car of Spychiger arrived at the Parabolica at an estimated speed of 120 miles per hour. Hundreds of spectators, just a few meters away, watched in dismay as the car veered to the left as the brakes were applied, while the driver tried desperately to keep it on the track.

The nose of the Ferrari struck the embankment that bordered the curve, launching it over the top and smashing it against some of the poplar trees. The car instantly became a fireball, its fuel tank filled just a few minutes earlier exploding and burning, releasing dense, acrid, black smoke high into the air.

Spychiger was competing in the 1000km with Herbert Muller and had recently taken his place at the wheel. The change had occurred at the end of lap 33. Muller, at that time, had been closely following the Ferrari of Mike Parkes. It is likely that the pressure of maintaining second place in the race had caused Tommy to push too hard.

Spychiger had perhaps approached the corner too fast. Those who watched in fright as the car was terrifyingly launched over the embankment said his driving position was perfect - his arms were outstretched, his body sat back in the seat, as required by the technique of driving at high speed. It's unlikely he was overcome by a sudden illness, as everyone had heard the screeching of the tires as he tried to slow down, a clear sign that the driver had known he'd taken the corner too quickly.

It was over in a matter of moments. The Ferrari fell to the ground with the petrol tank split open, while the front had fallen apart completely. The driver died on the spot: his head, sliced off cleanly through the torso, finished up a hundred meters away. In the impact, the fuel tank exploded and quickly developed an intense fire. After a few minutes, practically all sixty thousand spectators sensed that something serious had happened. A column of smoke, about fifty feet high rose into the air, indicating that one of the competing cars was on fire. Only later, however, did they know the details of the accident.

An ambulance and a firetruck arrived immediately at the spot, while the spectators on the inside the curve gave out cries of terror. Due to the violence of the fire and the unbearable heat that emanated from it, there was nothing their foam could do to intervene with the fire.

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)

I made a b&w of each picture because the blue and orange colors gave me fits. I also made a darker version of the spinout pic so the blue and orange colors weren't so glaring. I usually avoid reds and blues because they don't work well with the red/cyan glasses. I hope you enjoy these when your 3D glasses arrive.
